“promoting a sustainable community for Kingsteignton and respect for its residents both present and future” Timeline The quarry company, Watts Blake Bearne (WBB), has been an integral part of Kingsteignton since 1861.  Predecessor companies can be traced back to 1710. Over the years it has employed many local people and  as a local company has done much good in the area. The company became part of the international group  SCR Sibelco SA of Belgium (Sibelco) in 1999.  1999 – Proposals formulated for large scale development within Kingsteignton by Teignbridge District Council  (TDC) and Devon County Council (DCC) 2001- The Bovey Basin Strategy approved and adopted by DCC, TDC, Kingsteignton Parish Council, seven  other Parish and Town Councils, WBB Devon Clays, Viridor Waste Management Co. Ltd., Clifford Estates Co.  Ltd and others. December 2002 - a timetable for the remediation of worked out quarry land at Newcross lodged with DCC as  the designated authority for the Review of Old Mineral Permissions (ROMP).  It proposed ‘restoration’ of the  site over a 15 year period from 2002 (Application No. 05/4362/2002) August 2003 – DCC approve “Alternative Restoration Concept” for Newcross. The Restoration Masterplan  and the Sequence of Workings would restore the site to approximately 50 per cent residential development. September 2003 – Announcement of plans for an Urban Village development by Arnold White Estates  (AWE) on behalf of Sibelco February 2004 – Public exhibition of Urban Village proposals at Newton Abbot Racecourse at which  representatives of AWE were quite adamant that there was no need for extra primary school provision saying  "everybody has cars and there is spare classroom capacity within 5 miles of Kingsteignton" Summer 2004 - TDC adopt the Devon County Structure Plan to run to 2016 November 2004 – KREAG formed Late 2005 – Work began to fill Newcross pond contrary to the agreed ROMP programme. An order by DCC  to reinstate the site as per the agreement was ignored 2006 – The former Country Park at Newcross resembles a “moonscape” June 2007 – Planning permission sought for housing development at Newcross and sports facilities at Exeter  Road (Broadway) January 2008 – Planning permission refused by TDC for development at Newcross and Exeter Road  (Broadway) March 2008 – 9 planning applications, described as the “Masterplan” for development, submitted to TDC July 2008 – TDC Local Development Plan Roadshow visits Kingsteignton  November 2008 – Government Inspector grants planning permission for Broadway sports facilities on  Appeal but rejects Newcross development  January 2009 – Parish Council votes for Kingsteignton to become a Town in order to gain more influence in  planning matters (this turns out not to be a wholly factual argument) May 2009 – Planning application for development at Newcross re-submitted to TDC  June 2010 – “Masterplan” planning applications and the re-submitted planning application for Newcross are  approved by TDC committee. Co-incidentally, DCC reveal plans to “improve” Old Exeter Road which affords  access to the Newcross site  July 2010 – TDC Core Strategy Roadshow visits Kingsteignton  September 2010 – Secretary of State declines request by Kingsteignton Town Council to call-in the planning  approval for Newcross development even though it represents less for the community that the former  application which was rejected at appeal  November 2010 – KREAG Annual General Meeting adjourned pending reassessment of Terms of Reference January 2011 – “Improvements” to Old Exeter Road completed  March 2011 – KREAG reformed at continuation of AGM May 2011 – KREAG secures 3 members on Kingsteignton Town Council Please now go to the latest events here Follow us See it on a map
